The Brazilian muay Thai specialist outlanded Michelle Waterson over the course of 25 minutes to capture a unanimous decision in the UFC on ESPN 24 headliner on Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Since the bout was contested at flyweight, it won’t have much bearing on either woman’s 115-pound ranking, but it was nonetheless a solid showcase performance for Rodriguez against a game opponent.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 24, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

125: Significant strikes landed by Rodriguez, a career best for the Brazilian. By comparison, Waterson landed 88. Rodriguez outlanded her opponent 21 to 13 in Round 1, 27 to 18 in Round 2, 38 to 21 in Round 3 and 32 to 22 in Round 5. Waterson held a 14-to-7 edge in Round 4, when she secured her lone takedown of the fight.

60: Significant head strikes for Rodriguez. Waterson, meanwhile, landed 43 in that category.

37: Significant leg strikes for Rodriguez; Waterson had 20. Rodriguez also held a 19-to-7 advantage in significant clinch strikes.

35: Significant strikes landed by Alex Morono en route to a stoppage of Donald Cerrone 4:40 into the opening stanza of their welterweight co-main event. Cerrone landed 17 significant strikes in defeat.

422: Significant strikes landed by Cerrone’s opponents in his last six UFC appearances, including Saturday night. “Cowboy” has landed just 277 significant strikes during that time. Cerrone is winless in those six bouts and has been finished by TKO on four occasions.

8: Career KO/TKO defeats for Cerrone, all of which have occurred in UFC competition. The following men own KO/TKO wins over the BMF Ranch founder: Anthony Pettis, Rafael dos Anjos, Jorge Masvidal, Darren Till, Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor and Morono.

18: UFC triumphs for Neil Magny, the second most in the history of the promotion’s welterweight division. Only ex-champ Georges St. Pierre (19) has more victories at 170 pounds. Magny outpointed Geoff Neal in a featured bout on Saturday.

214: Total strikes attempted by Magny. Neal attempted nearly one-third as many, with 76. Volume was a key to Magny’s victory, as he outlanded his foe 89 to 37 in total strikes and 55 to 35 in significant strikes.

14:06: Total control time for Marcos Rogerio de Lima in a decision win over Maurice Greene at heavyweight. The Brazilian landed a takedown in each round and kept his opponent on his back for the majority of the contest, racking up a 166-to-60 advantage in total strikes landed.

6: Finishes since 2016 for Gregor Gillespie, who put away Carlos Ferreira with ground-and-pound 4:51 into the second round of their 155-pound encounter. That ties him with Kevin Lee for the second most finishes in the lightweight division during that time behind only Charles Oliveira (eight).

30: Significant strikes by which Gillespie outlanded Ferreira during Round 2. The former NCAA national champion wrestler wore his opponent down with a withering pace after being outlanded by a 26-to-10 count in significant strikes in the opening stanza.

157: Total strikes landed by Phil Hawes in a unanimous decision triumph against Kyle Daukaus at middleweight. By comparison, Daukaus landed 52. Hawes also held a 66-to-28 advantage in significant strikes landed.

73: Total strikes by which Hawes outlanded Daukaus during a dominant third stanza.

0: Takedowns landed in seven attempts for Daukaus. Hawes, meanwhile, was successful on two of his four tries.

61: Significant head strikes landed by Jun Yong Park in a majority decision triumph over Tafon Nchukwi at middleweight. By comparison, Nchukwi landed 20 significant strikes to the head. Park consistently tagged his foe with his jab in the victory. Nchukwi had a more varied approach, outlanding his foe 25 to 4 to the body and 13 to 6 to the legs.

19: Athletes to win a fight in UFC competition via anaconda choke after Carlston Lindsay Harris used the maneuver to render Christian Aguilera unconscious in their preliminary welterweight bout. All told, 22 UFC bouts have ended via anaconda choke. Charles Oliveira, Phil Davis and Makwan Amirkhani each have two victories via anaconda choke submission in the Las Vegas-based promotion.

1: Fighter to compete in the UFC from Guyana, a small country in South America, after Harris made his Octagon debut on Saturday night. Advertisement
