The Coronavirus Chronicles: Martin Lewandowski

The mixed martial arts industry finds itself on hold until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic pandemic. However, that does not mean the movers and shakers within the business have avoided plotting a productive return once they hear the all-clear. Such is the case for KSW President Martin Lewandowski, who continues to steer his promotion under a stay-at-home mandate in Poland. One idea he with which he has toyed in recent days: co-promotion.

“Of course [co-promotion] is complicated. It used to be complicated even in normal times,” Lewandowski told Sherdog.com, “but actually, I’ve been thinking about it today, about operations with Bellator [MMA] and with Rizin [Fighting Federation]. I had that thought a couple of years ago, and we’ve been trying to make some co-promotion [with, for example] exchanging fighters, so this is a good time to renew that idea. I don’t know what the other promoters—besides what I can think of—what problems they might have. Everyone has their own problems. It’s not like one problem for everybody. Besides that, there is no income. That is a general [problem], but there are different solutions and different ways of cooperating.”

In this exclusive interview with Sherdog, Lewandowski discussed the process of deciding to postpone upcoming events, entering into a time of financial hardship and settling on strategies KSW could employ when the schedule resumes.
