Mayweather painted what many consider to be his masterpiece on Jan. 20, 2001, when he retained his WBC and lineal super featherweight titles with a 10th-round technical knockout of the previously unbeaten Diego Corrales at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He knocked down Corrales five times -- “Chico” hit the deck on three occasions in the seventh round and twice more in the 10th -- before his corner interceded on his behalf. Mayweather landed nearly four times as many punches (220) as Corrales (60), according to CompuBox. Just 23 at the time, he could not have dreamed up a more complete performance. The three-time national Golden Gloves champion was well ahead on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage, leading 89-79, 90-79 and 90-78. Corrales entered the bout with a 33-0 record.
